1.3.4 | Area detection (for walking tendencies)

Safe-Area.svg

General note

Area detection can be switched on or off in the alea cockpit according to the care recipient's indication.

The function informs care staff in real time whether a patient has left a predefined safety area (e.g. the room, ward or building of a care setting) in order to

  • prevent further illnesses, injuries or lack of medical services (e.g. supply of medication),

  • to be able to react immediately as a carer in order to be able to

  • recognise wandering, especially in care recipients with dementia or cognitive impairments.

Indication (necessary application context)

  • This function should only be used for people suffering from mild, moderate and severe dementia or cognitive impairment, including wandering. A corresponding need for care, dementia, Alzheimer's disease or mental or behavioural disorders occurring with dementia should be monitored by the care provider in the context of this function.

  • The application can be short-term, but also routine-based and long-term.

  • People in need of care without risk behaviour such as wandering (e.g. in the context of dementia) should be excluded from the function.

Additional information regarding medical application parameters for area detection

Duration of use:

The digital assistance system as part of area detection can be used in the short, medium and long term.

Potential risks:

Those responsible for care are not instructed to change their routines and predefined processes, even on the basis of the quality management (QM) of a healthcare provider (e.g. care setting, hospital). Zone management is to be understood as a digital assistance system. In addition, the device is not in direct contact with the care recipient or their skin. The risk is therefore categorised as low.

Contraindications:

People in need of care who do not exhibit any risk behaviour, such as wandering or walking tendencies (e.g. in the context of dementia).
