1.3.3 | Fall detection

Fall-Detection.svg

General note

Fall detection can be switched on or off for each care recipient in the alea cockpit according to the indication. This function informs those responsible for care in real time whether a care recipient has fallen so that they can react promptly and provide assistance - also to prevent further illness, injury or suffering.

Indication (necessary application context)

All care recipients with a sufficient and regular risk of falling in the context of a need for care and with a tendency to fall can use this function.

The application can be short-term, but also routine-based and long-term. People in need of care without a recognised or known risk of falling should be excluded from using or activating this function in the alea cockpit.

Supplementary information regarding medical application parameters for fall detection

Intended care use:

A fall detection system that informs the person responsible for care in real time whether a person in need of care or a care recipient has fallen in order to

  • prevent further illnesses, injuries or diseases,

  • to be able to react immediately as a carer.

Indications for use

People with a risk of falling

Medical condition that needs to be diagnosed, treated or monitored

  • Need for care (ICD-10 Z.74.-)

  • Tendency to fall (ICD-10 R29.6)

Potential risks

Those responsible for care are not instructed to change their routines and predefined processes, even on the basis of the quality management (QM) of a healthcare provider (e.g. care setting, hospital). Fall detection is to be understood as a digital assistance system. In addition, the device does not come into direct contact with the care recipient or the care recipient's skin. The risk is therefore categorised as low.

Duration of use

The digital assistance system for fall detection can be used in the short, medium and long term.

Contraindications

People in need of care without a risk or tendency to fall.
