Are there any scientific studies on the benefits of alea?

The digital assistance system alea has demonstrated its intended clinical benefits for care recipients and carers in three different inpatient long-term care facilities, as part of a 13-month stratified randomised controlled trial (RCT) funded by the (German) National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds in cooperation with Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences. The study was able to demonstrate statistically that alea made a significant contribution to improving sleep quality by reducing unnecessary manual visual checks, which was associated with a decrease in falls.

  • An improvement in sleep quality was observed by 72% of all carers. 56% reported fewer night-time disturbances.
  • Just under half of all carers noted an improvement in the quality of life or an increase in the well-being of care recipients.
  • In parallel, savings of almost 23% on incontinence products were achieved – and consequently just as many fewer changes of incontinence products.
  • In addition, according to 47% of carers, there was a reduction in leaks.
  • 22% of carers reported that they were able to prevent infections such as urinary tract or fungal infections in their care recipients, thereby effectively contributing to skin protection.
