What should relatives know about alea?
As a care worker, you may be asked about the clip by relatives – or asked about the system before it has even been put into use. This article provides you with a simple basis for these conversations.
What is alea?
alea is a small sensor clip that residents wear on their person. It detects care-related situations – such as when someone leaves their bed or needs assistance with incontinence care – and alerts the care team immediately.
alea does not replace a care worker, but helps the team to respond at the right time.
Frequently asked questions from relatives
“I’m worried about radiation.”
The clip does not emit radio signals beyond the normal levels of everyday devices. It is non-invasive and has been specifically developed and tested for use in care settings.
“Is my mother being monitored by this?”
alea does not make video or audio recordings and does not observe people. It detects only care-related conditions. All data is encrypted and processed in accordance with the GDPR.
“Will the carers then provide less care?”
Because the team is informed more quickly, there is more time for personal attention. alea takes the strain off routine tasks – not human care.
What relatives should know
